How to Check Your Pulse
What is Pulse?
Pulse is the rate at which your heart beats. Pulse is usually called your
heart rate, which is the number of times heart beats each minute (bpm)
We can find it through the rhythm of pulsing in some blood vessels close to the
skin’s surface. This happens as your heart pumps blood through your body, we can feel
a pulsing in some blood vessels. Some of them are in wrist, neck or upper arm. Counting
pulse rate is a simple way to find how fast your heart beats.
There are many ways as on to find pulse rate, but we note some best methods as to find
your own pulse by yourself.
1. Use of your Index finger and middle finger to find your pulse.
Don’t use your thumb, as its own pulse will interfere with your reading.
Place your index and middle finger on the underside of your opposite wrist,
below the base of the thumb. Another place to measure your pulse is just to the
side of your Adam’s apple, in the soft area at the side of your neck.
Check one side at a time. With the flat part of your fingers (but not the tips), press firmly.
Use a watch or clock with a second hand or digital second display. Count the number of times you feel a throb for one minute (60 seconds). This is the most accurate method.
If you’re in a hurry, you could count the beats you feel for 15 seconds and multiply by four or count beats for 30 seconds and multiply by two. These options will work but are not quite as accurate as counting for a full minute.
